Soluna
A public seating system design for Cappellini
Designed a contract seating system for Cappellini Furniture, tailored for airports and public spaces with a focus on sustainability. Mentored by Cappellini’s design team, I incorporated sustainable, durable materials to create seating that balances comfort with contemporary aesthetics.
The final design met Cappellini’s brand standards, combining functionality, aesthetic appeal, and sustainability for high-traffic environments.
Project Intention
During the spring quarter of my junior year, I was selected to participate in an eight-week collaboration project with Cappellini furniture in Lacoste, France. I traveled to Milan for Design Week, where I attended a meeting with Giulio Cappellini. Alongside five other students, I received a brief to design a public seating system for airport lounges and public spaces. Mr. Cappellini, who provided guidance on our designs, culminating in a final pitch presentation of our work.
Design Brief: Design a contract seating system: hotel lobbies, offices, airport VIP lounges. Seats can be equipped with countertops, lights, electric outlets. The seats can be free-standing or can be combined.
The project must include:
1) Use of recycled materials
2) Use of innovative technologies
Soluna

The Sol chair balances openness and privacy, and is a chair designed for collaborative and social environments. The arms of the chair provide partial enclosure, offering privacy for laptop users while still fostering a welcoming atmosphere for social interaction.
The Luna chair is designed for solo work, relaxation, and solitude in public settings. Luna offers secluded comfort and noise-reducing personal space within shared environments through its enclosed back and upholstered design.
